WHAT THE COURSE INVOLVES:
OVER THE COURSE OF THE 6 DAYS WE WILL HAVE UP TO 8 DIFFERENT INDUSTRY GUESTS TO LEARN FROM, NOT INCLUDING FOUNDERS DAVID THAXTON & NANCY SULLIVAN.
ALL GUESTS ARE TBC BUT WILL BE AT THE VERY TOP OF THEIR FIELD WITHIN THE INDUSTRY.
INDUSTRY MINDSET & WELLBEING
Every day we will look at our approach to the industry - our audition, unemployment and 'rejection' approach. What we offer as actors in talent has a direct link to our mindset towards opportunities. We will practice mindfulness and resilience everyday. Many of our actors have had incredible results in changing their mindset. We also look at what you can be doing for yourself to get work rather than just waiting for an agent to do the work for you.
DANCE & FITNESS
There will be 5 dance/fitness sessions over these 6 days.
The dance will be musical theatre jazz and taught by SELINA HAMILTON. The fitness session will be held by Nancy Sullivan.
These sessions will be fun and supportive as well as challenging.
AUDITION TECHNIQUE & ACTING THROUGH SONG
Please prepare 2/3 songs and/or 2/3 monologues and bring your repertoire. You will be worked with individually and perform your songs/monologues to the group.
We will cover audition technique, suggest songs for you, look at your acting through song and audition technique.
If you are not a singer and do not wish to sing, please let us know and we can arrange for you to bring extra monologues or provide scenes for you.
ACTING / SCENE WORK
Contemporary scenes will be given out to suit your casting type. We will then work with them with a process followed by an in-depth session being on your feet with the text putting this process into practice - really getting into the nuts and bolts of a scene, exploring what the playwright wants, finding facts and asking questions, exploring the events and intentions.
This is a vital skill as a performer. It makes you listen, keeps you present in the scene at all times and will benefit you massively in other areas of your performance. Improvisation keeping you brave and the love of acting and play alive.
This will involve auditioning for a panel as you would be expected to in the industry. This takes place at the end of week, after we have worked on your material and it's all ready to show.
We want for you to see how you deal with your nerves and other factors when you feel slightly vulnerable. To create this environment for you you will not know the panel, how many of them to expect and the audition will be held in a very professional manner. In the past we've had up to 6 people - agents, industry creatives and well known actors on the panel.
Even if you have attended auditions in the past, this is a great opportunity for you to get written feedback from every panel member and different opinions on what you offered in the audition room.
